First Communion
First Reconciliation
Reconciliation is an extremely important sacrament that often gets overlooked. It is considered a sacrament of healing, because it repairs our relationship with God and restores us back to the moment of our baptism. As Catholics we are called to receive this sacrament at least once a year.
There are several reasons students are encouraged to receive this sacrament before receiving First Communion, which includes:
- To build up a practice of going on a regular basis.
- To build a relationship between the child and priest and help alleviate any fears or misconceptions about confession.
- It teaches the child that the priest is acting in "persona christi" (in the person of Christ) and serves as a mediator between us and Christ.
- It prepares the child to receive the true presence of Christ at their First Communion, in a state of grace.
First Communion
First Communion (First Eucharist) is a sacrament of initiation that falls between baptism and confirmation. It is through this sacrament that we receive Jesus' body, blood, soul and divinity so that we can be in full "communion" with Him. Jesus longs to have this relationship with us. We should always strive and pray for that same desire to have that relationship with Him.
If your child has not received their First Reconciliation or First Communion and is in 2nd grade or older, contact our Parish Offices to help us prepare them for this beautiful and necessary sacrament.
