First Reconciliation

First Reconciliation

Reconcilation is an extremely important sacrament that often gets overlooked.  It is considered a sacrament of healing, because it repairs our relationship with God and restores us back to the moment of our baptism. As Catholics we are called to receive this sacrament AT LEAST once a year. The reason students receive the sacrament at such a young age is for several reasons:

1.  It is meant to build up the practice of going on a regular basis.

2. It helps build a relationship with child and priest and helps alleviate and fears or anxieties of going to confession.

3.  It teaches the child that the priest is acting in "persona christi" (in the person of Christ) and is a mediator between the child and Christ himself.

4.  It prepares the children to receive the true presence of Christ at their First Communion in a state of grace.

If your child has not received their First Reconcilation or First Communion and is in 2nd grade or older, contact our parish offices to help us prepare them for this beautiful and necessary sacrament.
